84-year-old nun sentenced to jail for infiltrating “secure” nuclear weapons facility and exposing serious security deficiencies
Megan Rice, an 84-year-old nun, was sentenced to 35 months in prison after breaking into the grounds of a nuclear weapons complex and defacing a bunker holding bomb-grade uranium. Her demonstration at the Y-12 National Security Complex on July 28, 2012, exposed serious security flaws to the Oak Ridge, Tenn., plant. Before sentencing, she told U.S. District Judge Amul Thapar that the U.S. government was spending too much money on weapons and the military.
Rice, a sister in the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, became a nun when she was 18 and served for 40 years as a missionary in western Africa teaching science. She and two other activists cut through fences to reach a $548 million storage bunker and then hung banners, strung crime scene tape, and hammered off a small chunk of the fortress-like Highly Enriched Uranium Materials Facility inside the most secure part of the complex.

Builder Confidence Drops In February
Builder confidence in February dropped to its lowest level since March 2013.
“Significant weather conditions across most of the country led to a decline in buyer traffic last month,” said NAHB Chairman Kevin Kelly, a home builder and developer from Wilmington, Del, via a release. “Builders also have additional concerns about meeting ongoing and future demand due to a shortage of lots and labor.”

Massachusetts Gaming Commission denies Hampden and Northampton surrounding community status for MGM Springfield casino
MGM negotiated surrounding community mitigation agreements with Ludlow, Agawam, Wilbraham, East Longmeadow and Chicopee.
The agreements with Agawam and Chicopee call for each municipality to receive $125,000 up front with annual payments of $150,000.
Ludlow, East Longmeadow and Wilbraham are set to receive $50,000 up front with annual payments of $100,000.
MGM has designated West Springfield as a surrounding community, although a specific agreement is still being hashed out between MGM and the town’s newly elected mayor, Ed Sullivan.
In addition to the jobs promised to Holyoke residents, that city will receive $50,000 up front and approximately $85,000 annually from MGM based on a deal struck by Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse.
Longmeadow, Northampton and Hampden all petitioned the commission for surrounding community designation after their respective talks with MGM fell short of securing a deal.
A decision is expected later Tuesday on Longmeadow’s petition for surrounding community status.
