Seasonal Color Wheel

“To make the wheels, artist Sasha Duerr collected local plants from these regions throughout the year to create natural dyes, using various mordants (chemicals used to set dye) to manipulate the colors.”

“More than 350 scientists and conservationists from 40 countries have signed a letter calling for global action to protect whales, dolphins and porpoises from extinction.”

“By far the biggest threat is becoming accidently captured in fishing equipment and nets, which kills an estimated 300,000 whales, dolphins and porpoises a year.”

Ice bubbles

“When lake water freezes quickly it can trap bubbles below the surface. These bubbles in Switzerland’s Lago Bianco were likely formed from methane. Decaying organic matter at the bottom of the lake is eaten by bacteria, which in turn pump out methane gas. If conditions are right, the methane bubbles are captured as the water freezes around them.”

Baby bears wrestling

Here’s a cute video of two baby bears wrestling at Yosemite National Park in California. Jeff Molyneaux captured this amazing video just outside the park near Hetch Hetchy as he was driving home from a hiking and camping trip. Don’t worry, the mama bear is out of the shot, just off the road and after the wrestling match, the bear cubs made it safely to her. “It is still one of the best experiences I have had on a camping trip,” Jeff says.
